What do you do with your engagement ring when you separate?
What do you do with an engagement ring that is no longer appropriate to wear? I guess you could have it made into another kind of jewellery but I think my engagement ring is so beautiful that I wouldn’t want to turn it into something else. I don’t want to wear it again but don’t want to just shove it in its box somewhere either. I really wasn’t sure what to do until I talked to a few jewellers and then had an idea …..
The Fusband knows his stuff when it comes to diamonds so I have an absolutely gorgeous ring with a stunning diamond. It’s valued at about GBP10,000. The jewellers I’ve spoken to advise me that the best place for selling a ring like this would be on eBay, would you believe, and that it would probably sell for about 75% of the value.
GBP7,500 is a figure that is constantly in my head because that is the cost of an Oshika-Hanto Home. So then I started thinking — what if I built a little place on Oshika-Hanto myself? What if I built a place where volunteers or tourists could come and stay and therefore encourage the spending of time or money in that area? So many of the older kids I meet in England say they would like to volunteer in the area themselves — maybe having somewhere to stay in the middle of it all would encourage people to visit the area and lend a hand themselves?
To me, that would be a lovely thing to do with my engagement ring — somebody else can enjoy its beauty, and lots of other people can benefit from it in a very different way. The Fusband really likes the idea too so now I just have to work out how to get it on eBay. I’ve never done that before but it can’t be that difficult …..
